I have a black sapote tree approximately 10 meters tall and I was wondering how heavily a can prune the tree so I can get a more compact tree allowing easier access to the fruit?

Hi Luke, If it has low branches you should be okay to cut off any leader, being careful not to tear the branches or yourself as you prune. Paint the stubs after you have cleaned up the prune and make sure it is next to the collar of the branch. 10m is very tall so do it incrementally. Without low branches, it could be a risk, but they do shoot readily after pruning so hopefully it won't give you trouble. Kind Regards, Pauline
