HotCactus starts with ... Hi All! I have a 3 year old Golden Gage plum tree that was enthusiastically ringbarked with a whipper sniper at low trunk level. This tree had fruited moderately last summer. There was about 1.5 cm bark left on one side and 2 cm on the other side, the wound went right down to core between these two strips. I covered the wound with pitch/ asphalt. My question is should I just cut to the chase and replace it with new stock ? I guess I could just leave it this year and see what happens but I can get a last minute order in and replace it with a new tree this season. I don't have room to put in another tree separately. Any advice helpful!! | About the Author HotCactus MOUNT MARTHA,3934,VIC 12th August 2021 2:48pm #UserID: 27385 Posts: 3 View All HotCactus's Edible Fruit Trees |
jakfruit etiquette says... As a 3 year old tree, what diameter is the trunk ? You say total 3.5 cm bark left, how much is missing ?? At what height is the wound ?? You say I covered the wound with pitch/ asphalt. Is that a grafting sealant product ?? At this stage it would be better to know how much bark is left. If it grows suckers from below the wound, you might be able to inarch or bridge graft it ?? This is for Citrus, but the technique is the same. You can also bridge graft with fresh sticks, not only suckers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnSd5Gk0GR4 | About the Author jakfruit etiquette gotham city,3000,Vic 13th August 2021 1:03pm #UserID: 5133 Posts: 915 View All jakfruit etiquette's Edible Fruit Trees |
