We have black soil and are wondering if it is safe to plant bloodgood maples in it.
Would it be best to keep them in pots and if so what is the best potting mix to use?

You shouldn't have any issues, at least not that I know of. Maples tend to thrive in well-drained, moist soils. If you find it's too compact, consider digging through some silt / sand. That way you'll get the best mix of drainage and water retention.

A few other sources I'd recommend you check out:

Best of luck!

Thanks for your information I feel my more confident in planting the bloodgood now,the suggestion of adding some sand is a really good idea I think that will do the trick in helping with the drainage.
Thanks for your info
