Some help needed for my lemon/lime tree

    10 responses

meow starts with ...
I was wondering if anyone knows what the problem may currently be with my lemon/lime tree.

The first picture is the lemon side- it has a lot of bare stems. They have little knobs on them where growth used to be that dropped off. 1/2 way up the photo you can see some tiny new growth emerging from one knob, but this isn't happening on all of them. I had this problem after planting (last spring) and after fertilising many of them grew new growth. Should I fertilise again? I'm concerned it may be too much fertilising, as I know I'm not supposed to fertilise again till the end of summer.

The second photo shows the leaves on the lime side- they look eaten. I haven't found any bugs on the tree so I'm not sure if this is lack of nutrients too?

The water levels seem good- I water frequently and have used the water monitor to check the soil is okay. The only negative I think is that this tree is in a fairly exposed spot and I know citrus trees don't like wind. It's not been windy lately though- but would wind cause these foliage problems?

Thank you!!

I agree - locusts/grasshoppers or some night time weevil. Your tree looks like it could do with some trace elements too.

Hmm- night time bugs hey? Not sure what to do about that! LOL

What trace elements are you referring to Amanda? I have Magnesium Sulfate from Bunnings and there were a bunch of similar things for plants- are you referring to one that is called Trace Elements or do I need to pick and choose the elements?

Hi meow - yes - the one with all of the trace elements in it.
I have weevils that are out n about now - I don't bother too much about them - a trip with a torch out to the plant one night is usually the go.
If there's nothing there then likely grasshoppers as wayne said.

Charles cant spell says...
We used to put all our soapy water/laudry washing water on the citrus they loved it, turned them from yellow to green. That said we only used pure soap flakes so I am not suggesting you throw bleach etc on them.

I give them most of our laundry grey water when watering them- and some fresh water for a change sometimes too. I use an eco grey water safe detergent- but not pure soap.

I just put it at the base to water them- do you mean you pour it over the leaves?
