Have lost a lime and orange tree to sooty mould and ants. How do I protect a newly planted Tahitian Lime tree in a different part of the garden from the same fate?

Hi Margie, The sooty mould and ants is always a sign of scale infestation. If you treat this then these other signs will go. You can use pest oils, garlic or soap sprays. You can also prevent ants climbing the tree by putting a petroleum jelly collar around the trunk. But you can also work on soil health with extra organic matter, this will improve your plants defences.
