Summer pruning avocado

    1 responses

My Haas avocado has small fruit on some branches. There are other branches where the fruit has not set and now has new leaf growth at the end of the stem. Can I prune these non fruit bearing stems back to another leaf bearing stem.
Regards
Chris

Hi Chris,

I don't think there is any issue with summer pruning Avos as this is the time of the year they're actively growing (in temperate climate where I live). In fact they respond pretty well to pruning in my experience. I have a Haas, Bacon and a Wurtz and I have pruned the first two this year to shape them up this summer and already seeing the lateral buds starting to wake up. Happy gardening!
