Anonymous starts with ... You need to go out to the tree a night with a flashlight and check. If you have mulch I reckon its earwigs. If it is place some damp newspaper flat under mulch check in a day or two. When you go to check quickly roll newspaper up and place in green waste bin, another way is place saucers of used cooking oil at ground level around tree. This will attract them to oil and drown. You must keep repeating these methods to drive nos.down.You can try pesticides if you like. | About the Author AC1 2nd November 2013 3:34pm #UserID: 8055 Posts: 103 View All AC1's Edible Fruit Trees |

Harry says... I am not sure if it is earwigs...I was reading somewhere that the earwig is a beneficial insect (particularly for apple trees) that helps control aphids. I have also noticed a number of holes in my apples, which do not go all the way to the core. I suspect it is the same insect which is chewing on my apples. I will definitely go out tonight with a flashlight to see what the culprit is! | About the Author Harry Roxburgh Park 10th November 2013 7:01pm #UserID: 4975 Posts: 46 View All Harry's Edible Fruit Trees |
