I am in manly west . My ylang ylang is in full sun . It would be about 12 mts tall . Sparsly branched and the wood is almost as light as balsa . It needs full sun to grow properly . Once it gets too tall lop the top off and it will coppice a bit . I have it as the main anchor tree in my little rainforest garden 4mts x 3 mts .
