Aaron8 starts with ... Hi. I have a mango tree that I planted about 18months ago. It had been growing for about 9 to 12 months before I planted it. It is about 4 foot tall. I just noticed it now has about 12 small fruits growing. What should I do? Remove some or all of them?

Jez says... It’s up to you but I would remove them. The fruit will end up weighing down the branches and bend them. Those branches are the future main branches of the tree, instead if being straight they will be distorted. You could stake them but personally I don’t think it’s worth it. Remove fruit then prune above node. Mango Mike says... Your tree should be able to hold a few fruit .... Just bare in mind whilst the tree has fruit it won't be putting its energy into growth until the fruit is removed.....so if you keep the fruit you will get say 3 months of growth but if fruit is removed appox.7 months of growth which means larger tree & more fruit next year...... | About the Author Mango Mike KARRABIN,4306,QLD 19th October 2019 1:13pm #UserID: 14877 Posts: 115 View All Mango Mike's Edible Fruit Trees |
