Bacon avocado Rootstock not growing

    3 responses

Hi, My bacon avocado is nearly 2 years old in melbourne. The tree is doing really well except below the graft the root stock has not grown thicker, but above the graft is now double the size. Im worried that when I eventually take the stakes out that below the graft will break because its so thin. I have a pass and its whole trunk has a very think even thickness.
Is there a product that I can thicken the trunk with? I have feed it and done all the right things. Thank you for your help

Justin -- Dont brace it so hard mate - or it will totally depend on stakes for support - put 2 or 3 stakes 20cm away in a triangle etc and slightly loose tie them - tree needs to move a bit for trunk to notice :)

Unless my trees are in a pot I remove the stake the minute it goes in the ground, if the area is very windy I wait until new growth appears as then I know the roots will have begun to grow too.

Thanks for the feedback. The Bacon Tree is doing so well that its nearly 2 years old and it has about 50 small fruit on it already after a very long flowering time. The fruit have just formed now. I think I will be picking most of them off because of the weight of the fruit.

I will do what you guys recommended. Cheers
