Bean Fly control

Has anyone any advice on how to control bean fly and other pests on dwarf beans, climbing beans and snake beans other than using hard chemicals such as rogor. Do nets work the same as with fruit fly control.

Yes nets work, have you tried Mavrik?

Its pretty safe, buy it from yates via bunnings.

Pedro, try this 'Organic Bean-Fly Spray.'
10 cloves of garlic, unpeeled & cut up rough.
2 onions, (as above).
6 hot birdseye chillis, cut in half.
Boil all this for ~ 10 minutes, and let stand overnight. Strain, then add a bit of liquid soap, then store in a glass bottle or jar.
Dilute this, ~ 200ml of mixture to 9 litres of water (1 gal). (I add a wetting Agent here & no liquid soap)
Spray as soon as they germinate, then every second day until the beans are ~ 300mm high (1 foot).

Hi Diana,
Try adding some boron to the soil, that should fix it. To speed things up, dissolve some boron in water (follow instructions on pack), and, with a watering can, drench the current crop.

Tim, how does Thrive help? It's a fertiliser, not a pesticide. I'm curious.
