Pademelon1 says... I'm not sure if this will help you, but I was in Arnhemn land recently, and there were thousands of billy goat plums saplings, but there were no trees around. I later found out they had been destroyed in a cyclone a year earlier, and upon inspection, most of the saplings were actually the trees re-sprouting from their roots systems. This may indicate that they can be pruned easily... but IDK.
