Blight on avocado

Hi all, has anyone seen this? We've been on our property for 2 years and have never seen this, until our very dry 2013 spring.

The avo shed all its leaves and stopped fruiting. Since we moved in in 2011, the tree has never ever stopped fruiting (seriously).

Thanks!
Tim

appears to be the work of some kind of boring pest, superficial markings could be caused by bats and/or possums.

Thanks Sternus, I think not to bats...we don't have possums. Rats, p'raps.

Ambrosio or other beetle? My neighbour mentioned a beetle bringing a ruinous calamity upon his avo.

I used to work in fruit markets and see entire trays and even pallets of avos damaged like this. I think Rats are the culprit. They would even eat through cardboard trays to get to the fruit. Your picture is minor damage, I have seen rats shred right to the centre of rock hard hass.

I'll vote rats too. Either that or possum/bat. But the teeth marks look ratish. Plenty of animals looove to eat Avocados while still up in the tree
