Copper Hydroxide

    1 responses

Slicko starts with ...
Has anyone used copper hydroxide products as a method of root pruning in potted plants to prevent the roots from circulating the pot?

It seems by reading some of the American fruit growing forums that this is used to prevent the pots becoming root bound with circling roots.

Apparently some copper hydroxide products can be painted inside the pot and this kills the root tip at its point forcing the root to branch. It seems that the copper is not taken up by the plant, just the tip of the root where it comes into contact with the copper hydroxide product where it has been painted on the inside of the pot. It seems that it is claimed to provide the plant with a better root structure.

I poured copper sulphate down my drain to stop Paulownia roots getting in. OK so far, but you have to keep doing it.

Never heard of doing it in pots. I use Bonsai bags for this purpose.
