Diana says... Hi Ann, According to my book, you just need to remove any branches growing in a direction that you don't want (e.g. at a bad angle) while it is dormant. Main branches with fruiting spurs will be OK for three or four years, but you can thin out new shoots in spring if they are overcrowded.
