David Cameron starts with ... My fig tree is four years old and from your nursery. In its first year it had three fruit, in the second about 100, in the third year about 5 fruit and there are only two immature fruit on the tree now. It has been pruned in winter each year and the spring/summer flush has almost doubled its size this year. It has been provided with N, P, K, ag lime and blood and bone several times a year. It receives almost total morning sunlight but partly shaded by a large mango tree from mid-day on. Manfred says... The books say you shouldn't fertilise figs because this encourages growth and discourages fruit. I find they produce quite well without fertiliser, but whether fertilising results in less fruit or not, I wouldn't know. Sometimes those old characters who wrote the books knew what they were talking about, and sometimes they didn't. They like water a lot more than most growers like to admit.
