davewastech starts with ... Anybody seen it growing that can tell me how high it grows? I've read that it can grow 60cm http://myfolia.com/plants/7-spinach-spinacia-oleracea/varieties/136532-galilee but mine are only about 20cm and starting to go to seed already. It is a very nice spinach to eat in salads, just that 20cm plants don't provide a lot to eat. | About the Author davewastech WILLOUGHBY EAST, NSW 17th May 2015 2:57pm #UserID: 7097 Posts: 115 View All davewastech's Edible Fruit Trees |

Loves Fruit Trees says... Hi Dave, I researched it for you and members who are interested in this Middle Eastern spinach that comes from Israel. Galilee struck my interest. A Review Site says: Germination 35 days. An heirloom spinach with striking, triangular shaped leaves that are quick to size up. Galilee is especially heat tolerant and suited for summer growing. Vibrant green leaves make an appealing and flavorful addition to salads, and hold up well when cooked. An Australian Organic Seeds Site who supplies the seed descibes the plant this way: Spinach 'Galilee' originates in the Middle East and has a higher degree of heat tolerance than is found in other English spinach cultivars. The leaves are triangular in shape on curly stems. They sell Pkts of 100 seeds for 3.95 and they can be contacted at Green Harvest on 1800 681014 Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm (EST) They should be able to answer your question for you. Members, this is the link to buy it. https://greenharvest.com.au/SeedOrganic/VegetableSeeds/SalsifyToSpinach.html

davewastech says... Thanks, I've been away, and actually my Galilee Spinach did eventually reach about 30 to 40cm. BTW It is one of the nicest tasting spinachs, as good or better than English Spinach (which grows painfully slowly in Sydney's winter and is too difficult for the rest of the year). Galilee produces a lot of little green flower heads which are kind of gritty tasting so I discard them | About the Author davewastech WILLOUGHBY EAST,2068,NSW 30th August 2015 11:19pm #UserID: 7097 Posts: 115 View All davewastech's Edible Fruit Trees |

davewastech says... Hi Julie, (sorry a bit late replying) The instructions from Seeds4You says for temperate climates plant autumn, early winter and early spring (sic). Mine planted in autumn was good. I just tried planting some more (September). They're looking good, but I'll have to wait and see if they can tolerate the warmer weather coming up. | About the Author davewastech WILLOUGHBY EAST,2068,NSW 5th October 2015 12:43pm #UserID: 7097 Posts: 115 View All davewastech's Edible Fruit Trees |

davewastech says... I'm not sure Julie. The instructions from Seeds4you says for temperate climates to plant Autumn, early Winter and early Spring. I just planting some in early September. Update - Seeds planted early September bolted very quickly. So I'd say early September in Sydney is too late to plant them | About the Author davewastech WILLOUGHBY EAST,2068,NSW 9th November 2015 6:37pm #UserID: 7097 Posts: 115 View All davewastech's Edible Fruit Trees |
