Barbara Jones starts with ... I am wanting to plant grapevine on my front balcony - for ultimate coverage, not necessarily the grapes themselves. The balcony gets direct sun in all months, although strongest and for longest period throughout the day in the Summer. I have looked at both Muscadine Nobel and Caroline Black Rose on your site, and wonder if these would be OK? I would need to plant them in large pots and train them to climb trellis. What do you think? Many thanks, BARBARA JONES | About the Author Barbara Jones Lane Cove Sydney 6th June 2015 12:43pm #UserID: 11850 Posts: 1 View All Barbara Jones's Edible Fruit Trees |
Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery says... Hi Barbara, the muscadines are the best choice for coastal arclimates as they love humidity and do not suffer from the fungal problems that they Eurpoean grapes do. The Carolina Black Rose is less susceptible to these problems than other European grapes but you may find it still suffers during wet and humid weather. They can be grown in pots in full sun and will be perfect to give you winter sun and summer shade protection. | About the Author Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery 36 Daleys Lane, Geneva via Kyogle, NSW 2474 21st October 2015 11:50am #UserID: 5172 Posts: 80 View All Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery's Edible Fruit Trees |

allybanana says... I'm on the coast in Eden further south than you so maybe not as good for Muscadines here but my Muscadine got fungus and died as did Maroo seedless but our Isabella black never gets fungus and Pink Iona and Chambocine a little, I have no experience with Carolina black Rose. If your wanting it for the look more than fruit, maybe an ornamental grape could be best as uneaten fruit can get messy especially when the birds get in to it. | About the Author allybanana EDEN, NSW 24th October 2015 9:47pm #UserID: 4544 Posts: 372 View All allybanana's Edible Fruit Trees |
