Mark starts with ... Can I grow a banana plant From 'Seed'? I know that they grow from suckers, but the first banana's must have come from seed, surely? .... & I remember hearing when I was very young, that the black center of a banana is the seed. So I was just wondering,, can I grow a banana plant from seed? (ie:: by planting a whole banana or some dried banana perhaps? | About the Author Mark27 N.W. Speedy says... bananas you buy in shops dont have seeds, they're mutations that have been selected over centuries. sometimes they'll mutate and give rise to sports that are slightly different from the parent plant. Seeds in bananas (wild ones) are quite hard and can fill the whole fruit. Youd certainly know a banana seed if you found one in a banana...but very unlikely you will in Australia. Some species grown as ornamentals have seeds. | About the Author Speedy Nthn Vic. 26th August 2011 11:51pm #UserID: 2305 Posts: 250 View All Speedy's Edible Fruit Trees |
