growing vanilla-orchids in fruittree's

    2 responses

I have a vanilla-vine climbing into my duriantree. I like it and want to grow more of them in other fruittree's since that's all i have.

Does vanilla harm a tree with it's roots?

Hi Bangkok,

Vanilla roots are non-invasive, but stick to the host surface with strong vigour. Because of this, whilst it shouldn't hurt the host, It is probably best to avoid growing it on trees that shed bark often, or on trees prone to deep fissures. This is more for the sake of the vanilla than the host however.

Cheers Pademelon, in that case i will grow some more vanilla's, it grows slow though.

I'm surprised they can grow here at all since my climate is not that wet/humid during half of the year.
