Is Tahitian lime the best for WA

    5 responses

Due to my recent growing interest in cooking exotic dishes ( thanks Masterchef) & the enjoyment of a certain Mexican beer very occasionally, wink wink, I am considering planting a lime tree to keep my Kaffir lime company. Would Tahitian be the one to go for in Bunbury area, WA?

Tahitian Limes do well in melbourne, Mines still growing in winter, so I can't see why it wouldn't do even better in warmer WA.

My Tahitian lime produces kilos of fruit in the hills outside Perth. (Fruiting now) But a key lime did well too, I just didn't especially like it.

So either will grow for you.

hi snottiegobble - I have both as well. But my tahitian lime hasn't done well here (maybe too hot or too windy?) My key lime (grafted) is a machine! I had too many fruit this season so they were quite small - this time I will thin.

I agree with Julie - both should do well. So - it gets down to which one is gunna taste better with your beer hey???

Seeing as you're in Bunbury you might want to make sure you get the right rootstock for coastal conditions.
Better to visit a real nursery with real nursery specialists than buy from any large retail chains

Thanks everyone, & youre dead right Rev. I always buy from my local nursery in Capel when possible. Friendly service & advice is worth the few extra $$ isnt it.
BTW The Frogsong Pottery & Gardens has just sourced a huge selection of organic vegies & fruit & will be selling & even delivering from next week.
Am I a friend ?? Why of course!!
