Loquat tree

    1 responses

Robert Aitkenhead starts with ...
I have had a loquat tree in a pot on the verandah for the past 3 years which was grown from a seed. It looks very healthy and is about a meter high. I now would like to plant it out, but what are its chances in the cold of the Central Highlands of Tasmania and will it bear fruit. Any advice would be appreciated (including fertilisers and watering). Thank you.

It should fruit well for you - they don't need a pollinator either. I'd give it a bit of protection for its first couple of winters, but my established tree in the mountains of Victoria is covered in ice every winter and still fruits well. Feed it heavily (manure) and it should take off.
