Briguyman starts with ... Hey everyone, I'm new here. We have a lemon tree we've been taking good care of for the past year and a half, and suddenly this winter the leaves started turning yellow. I put in a small amount of fertiliser, we experienced very strong, sustained winds and it got quite cold in the night, and all the leaves fell off. I read it could be any combination of those three things, and that lemon (meyer) trees are hardy, so it's okay, especially because there was lots of new growth. Well today I went to inspect the tree and parts of the tree itself are turning brown, some of the new growth has died off. Can anyone please help me? Here are some pictures.

Markmelb says... During Winter i dont water my potted Citrus at all and give them a haircut when you think unlikely to get another frost in 3 or 4 weeks - give them a feed of slow release citrus food & a bit of Dyn Lifter and they fruit on new growth by the way. An old timer grower uses hedge shears to shape his in 200lt pots ( see a recent gardening Australia show on iView?) I suspect your pot has very poor drainage (one hole in bottom?)and they hate wet roots over winter - either tip over and drill 6 x one inch holes or repot into a decent plastic one or a root pruning bag. Cut back all that dead wood to green good wood too :) | About the Author Markmelb MOUNT WAVERLEY,3149,VIC 23rd September 2016 10:52am #UserID: 7785 Posts: 1192 View All Markmelb's Edible Fruit Trees |
