We have a very nice pending crop of raspberries on last years canes. This years new growth has been excessive . We have cut out the shoots that have run any distance from our growing trellis but are wondering , should you thin this years growth at present or wait till we choose our canes for next year

Do you know which variety you have Judy? Not really necessary to thin canes, they tend to die off after flowering and fruiting, in the second year of growth. Then simply remove the dead cane to make room for the following season.
