Nicecream

    2 responses

Nicecream starts with ...
I want to make and sell "exotic"ice cream at a market e.g., sapote, custard Apple
What would be the most cost effective fruits to use? The least labour intensive? The strongest flavour?
Which would grow best in the Coffs area?
Which would grow the quickest and bear the most fruit?
What ice cream would you like to try and why?

Jackfruit nicecream flavour would be something I would love to try. They are the worlds largest fruit. You would be best to grow the Soft ( eg. not Crisp but ones labelled just Jackfruit ) varieties as they have the strongest flavour. Black sapote is amazing as nicecream as well however a bit of almond milk adds to the flavour making it amazingly creamy. From Coffs though you have unlimited bananas available to you.

Here is a video showing the labour in preparing jackfruit

Seedlings can fruit after 4 years in good conditions but grafted varieties which have been created for taste can fruit much quicker.

Banana! Grows OK in Coffs Harbour, lots of fruit, overpowering flavour, cheap, quick-bearing.

But seriously, I think it might be worthwhile trying yellow sapote (canistel). Much more subtle than banana but still sweet and distinctive. Fairly quick to produce and no common pests. Popular in smoothies where they are common.
