Passionfruit tree and snake

    3 responses

We want to plant 2 passionfruit trees in our garden but were told they attract snakes.

Is it true? We live in a suburban house in Sydney. If they do can I plant lemongrass around the passion fruit pole to repel the snakes?

Cheers

Food (like rats and mice) attracts snakes and so does water.
Lemongrass will have as much effect as a crucifix on your door.

I guess a passionfruit vine might act as a corridor for arboreal snakes such as green tree snakes/carpet pythons on their way to safer shelter, but as for attracting them, that is just plain nonsense. Neither of these species are dangerous. Carpet snakes are nocturnal, so chances are you wouldn't ever see one, and a passionfruit vine wouldn't create anywhere near the kind of habitat that a tree snake would want to call home. Plant out your passionfruit vine and don't worry about the snakes.

The lemongrass will do nothing other than create a space in which rats can live which will attract snakes.

There are 5 methods to get rid of garter snakes without killing them: mow your lawn and remove leaves, remove food sources, build a fence, use garter snakes repellent, use garter snake traps. I tried and they have effects with snakes.
