Hi,

I'm hoping that someone is able to help identify this native fruit tree.
I live on the edge of the Lamington National Park (near the Qld/NSW border) and this is the first time we've noticed this tree fruit in 20 years.
I'm guessing its Australian bush tucker?
I can post further pics upon request :)

Cheers
Rhett

It looks like Davidson's plum (Davidsonia sp) - there are two species, the NSW one is the better quality fruit although your pictures look like you have a particularly large fruited variety. A bit sour to eat raw but they make one of the best jams or jellies around.

Most likely a black apple which are fruiting at the moment down here in Wollongong:

Quite variable in taste but a good tree yields delicious fruit - i blend them up in a smoothy for breakfast.

Hope this helps,

Rich

Thanks to both of you.
Phil I thought it was a Davidson's Plum too until I saw that those tree fruit in clusters.
I've looked at the Black Apple tree and it certainly looks like the tree here.
Thanks Rich.
My tree here is only about 5 metres tall, so if it is a black apple...she still has a bit of growing to do :)
Regards
Rhett :)
