Mike Tr says...
Pomelo grown in cooler areas lose a bit in quality and size. They don't tolerate low humidity, especially in Summer as well as a grapefruit does.

jakfruit etiquette says...
Tahitian pummelo may be ok, Oroblanco ( a GFruit X PUM hybrid ) should be ok, red grapefruit may be better choice than red pummelo, ditto as Mike says. The tropical types are as sour as lemons in the wrong areas, but some types do better in temperate areas.

I've seen them growing in Booragoon. Looked all right, not sure how they tasted though.

Boris Spasky says...
The Israelis grow them too. In their similar dry, low humidity climate they are not a true pomelo, but the Oroblanco type hybrids, commonly sold as Sweetie. As per jakfruit comment, the true pomelo will be very sour in the wrong climate.
