Roger says... Hi Patie, If you have problems getting vanilla cuttings/plants, I have V.planifolia both green and verigated and V, tahitensis. The attached note may be of interest

Diana says... Hi, I have ordered a vanilla plant. I was thinking of putting it in a large pot in orchid potting mix, with a pole to climb on in the pot, in the bathroom. The larger bathroom in my house would be best I think, as it is in the middle of the house with pretty constant temperature and no drafts (and steam of course), but it has a skylight with a silver foil tube directing sunlight in, rather than a window. Would this be enough light for the orchid? Thanks very much, Diana. | About the Author Brisbane 22nd January 2010 1:18pm #UserID: 0 Posts: View All 's Edible Fruit Trees |

JUJUBE FOR SALE IN MELBOURNE says... Hi Dianna, My vine has been happily in the guest bathroom with light from the window facing East all year round, it has a ducted heating point. It is not as bright as it should be and there is no problem there. Vanila orchid vine grows under the capony of a tree so I suspect they don't need much light. Good luck with your vine. I think yours will have enough light | About the Author JUJUBE FOR SALE Melbourne 22nd January 2010 2:04pm #UserID: 2706 Posts: 715 View All JUJUBE FOR SALE's Edible Fruit Trees |

JUJUBE FOR SALE IN MELBOURNE says... Hi Diana, I have grown the vine from a cutting since Jan 2009. I have not set it up properly yet and have not thought about doing it because it is still very small. You could see it is quite dark in the bathroom. I never thought that vanila orchid could survive in Melbourne and obviously, I am wrong.

epiphany says... I grow mine in our bathroom as well. It's in a pot full or orchid mix & grows up a wire obelisk. Every week, I feed it with orchid fertiliser (the growth one...there's a different one for flowering). The window faces north & the room gets quite warm, so with it's daily spray of water, it stays nice & humid (I keep it out of direct sunlight, though). I've only had it for a month or two but you can almost watch it growing - it's put on a huge amount of growth since I got it. It'll be interesting to see if we ever get any flowers off it. | About the Author epiphany2 Melbourne 31st August 2010 12:08am #UserID: 703 Posts: 84 View All epiphany2's Edible Fruit Trees |

Steven says... I found this link on another forum page on this website http://www.herbalistics.com.au/shop/ they sell vanilla so it might be a good point to start off with. They also have vanilla growing in the greenhouse at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne so you might be able to get a cutting from the vine they have (as long as no one is looking). humusbeings says... I just bought a good sized vanilla vine today down at my local farmer's market and a chocolate tree too. The vanilla is a good score and I'm feeling hopeful that it will grow as long as we spoil it a bit through Perth summer. Eep. I suspect the Theobroma will end up being a non-fruiter. | About the Author Humusbeings Fremantle 20th November 2011 3:03pm #UserID: 5983 Posts: 4 View All Humusbeings's Edible Fruit Trees |

Sophie...plante says... Hi everyone, I realise this forum hasn’t been commented on in many years. I just recently bought a vanilla orchid from Diggers, it’s smaller than I expected (one leaf and it it is about $0.10 big). Anywho, I live in Perth and am wondering how to best take care of this little one. I am really excited to try growing it. I’ve seen someone post a video that they should be kept in their original pots and dug slightly into the ground and grown up a tree. Then I’ve heard other people say it’s best to re-pot them and and grow them up a stake. I think our back yard receives mostly easterly sun maybe north easterly... but I’m not exact. I’ve a very established frangipani in the back yard which I could grow it up where it will be shaded by the tree over summer, but would the autumn and winter sun here be too strong? I guess I really need some help, I really want this plant to thrive but don’t know how to help it! | About the Author Sophie...plante Como 23rd October 2018 11:34am #UserID: 19219 Posts: 1 View All Sophie...plante's Edible Fruit Trees |
