Jantina says... Go to Shop (left of this) type in kiwi fruit and it should come up with the green ones. Reading what Daleys write about them they sound like the same ones as in the shops. I for one will be sobbing piteously if they turn out to be something different because I love the sweet golden ones and that's why I planted them. Someone I know planted the seeds from a golden shop bought one and they came up but repeated efforts couldn't get them past the seedling stage. Somewhere on here there is a thread and others have had the same results, so being impatient and greedy I went for the plants and paid the $'sss. | About the Author Jantina Mt Gambier 3rd July 2011 11:19am #UserID: 1351 Posts: 1272 View All Jantina's Edible Fruit Trees |
epiphany says... I was always under the impression (true) gold kiwifruit seeds don't grow true to type (if you can get them to grow or fruit at all)...most discussions seem to indicate they have a strong tendency to regress to older (& usually much less desirable) traits, although I guess as with most hybrids, you might have a chance of getting a seedling that is promising? Hence the gold seedling variety avail here (not a true gold kiwifruit but sounds like an interesting variation). I also thought the NZ horticulture whoever it it is who looks after them (Zespri?) also kept a tight lid on selling (true) gold kiwifruit plants...at least, that was the case a few years ago. Only recognised kiwifruit growers could access the plants...even in NZ. They might be avail now (I don't know) but I strongly suspect they're still not avail commercially to the general public. | About the Author epiphany2 Melbourne 5th July 2011 9:34am #UserID: 703 Posts: 84 View All epiphany2's Edible Fruit Trees |
