Hi,
whilst transplanting my persimmon tree I have broken off the tap root. it still has lots of survice roots however I am wondering if it will survive? Any suggestions.
the tree was in a 10ltr bag and I had planted it 1mth prevoiusly but I felt it was too exposed to the elements this is the reason I wanted to move it.
many thanks david

Hi David,
If the feeder roots are still intact the tree has a very good chance of survival. My advice is soak it well with Seasol, which does wonders to stimulate root growth.

Oh, and prune back the branches a little, so the roots don't have such a heavy load to feed.

Hi David, one more suggestion... the tap root provides support for the tree. You may want to consider protecting the tree from strong winds, and pruning to keep the tree compact. This should help prevent the tree from blowing over. You may also want to consider espaliering the tree to keep the tree more compact and for added support.

Hi David,
Just wondering if your persimmon tree survived? If so, do you have any advice about the care of a transplanted tree with a broken tap root?
