FRUITING (forum)

We have been here for 27 years and the brazilian cherry has flowered and fruited every year, but this year it is just covered in fruit- it has been fruiting for 3 weeks and is still loaded. We also have a Burdekin plum tree that is doing the same thing- I suspect that the rain we have had after about 15 years of drought has been a major factor in the fruiting of these trees. The Brazilian cherry is growing in the garden od our home which is in the middle of our avocado orchard; the burdekin plum is growing on our cattle property at Godnight Scrub. AMAZING Donna D

Hey I was reading that Brazilian cherries taste great if halved, sprinkled with caster sugar and chilled for an hour or so. Seems to mask the resinous taste of the red variety.

THe Brazilian Cherry at City Farm in Perth tastes great, a little sour and tangy but better than most sweet tasteless normal cherries. Given all these folks saying how average they are aI am thinking I need to go and start a few cuttings, rather than growing my own seedlings.

I'm waiting for a grafted black fruited tree a local nursery has for me on order - supposed to be better tasting than the red. But I guess there is a lot of variation amongst seedlings.

Daleys had the black variety available recently. Advice along the line of adding sugar is not for all who dislike sucrose. Interestingly Glowinski described the red variety as tasting poisonous . I concur.
