samc1 starts with ... I have a Kwai Muk that I planted around Sept/Oct 2018. I noticed around April of last year (2019) white 'splotches' developing on some of the leaves. Did some googling, couldn't find any info, ignored it. It the last couple weeks, the upper leaves have all dropped and the branches and main growing tip have withered. There's still good growth and (for the moment) healthy looking leaves from a different branch lower down, and a small growth tip at the junction of the main stem and this healthy branch. Has anyone come across similar or might venture a guess. I don't have much luck with pruning out dead or dying branches -- I seem to do more damage that good, but am concerned that whatever has killed the upper branches will work its way down and kill the whole tree. It's still only small, about three foot high at most. Good sun, if a little too much afternoon sun, and an avocado I have close by in a similar position is thriving. I'm in Coffs, so it has (till a week ago) been very hot and dry, but its on built up soil, good compost, and kept reasonable watered. Thoughts appreciated.

Fruitylicious1 says... Hi Samc1 Oftentimes overwatering can do more harm than good. It can cause die back. Anyhow you don't have much of a choice but to prune all the dead and dying limbs of your tree up to the healthy tissue or the infection might crept down the entire tree and claim it. Salinity could also an issue with salt sensitive plants. It can eventually kill them if left unchecked. And just an after thought, I hope you haven't replaced a plant that had recently died of disease in the same spot with your kwai muk. | About the Author Fruitylicious1 TAMWORTH,2340,NSW 24th January 2020 8:54am #UserID: 16885 Posts: 709 View All Fruitylicious1's Edible Fruit Trees |
