Arrgh . Big mistake . You should grow cherimoya where you are. Attemoya which is what is sold in shops is subtropical. Maybe you meant cherimoya when you used the term custard apple. Terminological looseness.

I dAttemoyon't know if its a big mistake as such. I have planted A Attemoya Custard Apple this year. When choosing my fruit trees I did some reasearh and there was a web site for tropical fruit trees grown in Adelaide and they have been successful with these custard apples in pots - I will try and hunt down the web site for you (new computer and I lost my favourites list) I figure if we can grow them here then you should be alright in South NSW it might just take a little TLC - Mine survived so far through winter - actually better than some of my other trees.

Thanks DellDGM. Atemoyas grow fine here - African Pride is sold and grown as far south as the Bega area. A neighbour has sown atemoya seeds in his garden and gets a vigorous tasty crop. There is a beautifully even climate and rich soils here - average July temperatures are 7-15 without frosts in the right microclimate - much like Adelaide but more rain and less heat extremes. Lady finger bananas and mangoes can also be grown. But I'm at the stage of choosing varieties and fruiting times - hence my interest in `Late Gold' to compliment my early 'Fino de Jete' Any experience with 'Late Gold' anyone?
