New mango sapling

I just bought a Carrie mango tree sapling about 4 weeks ago. As soon as I transplanted the bare rooted sapling into the container, i put it into full California sun. Well the damage in the picture happened during the first week during the 110 degree weather. So, i put it in only morning sun for 4-6 hours since then to stop the burn and it has no progressed in problems. But, it has not grown until about a week ago it started having little horns come up but they are brittle and fall off. Is this normal before it starts back on track or am I doing something wrong? The soil is 50% coco noir, 25% sphagnum peat moss, 25% compost with earthworm castings. Has always been kept moist and is well draining. Suggestions?

Hi Jfin,

Mango does not like the wet feet. It likes the sandy soil mixed with compost. Your soil mixture will hold more water than it needs, that is why the young leaves are dropping. I suggest to repot it with just a good potting mix to see how it goes. Cheers
