denise starts with ... Hi everyone, last year I lost my grape crop to powdery mildew. This year there has been no signs of mildew so far, but I'm not sure if I should take preventative action. I have cut back the leaves to improve air flow, but should I spray as well? If anyone has any ideas for organic treatments, I'd love to hear them. Doug says... I have tried for over 10 years to stop powdery mildew. I have tried all sorts of fungacides and organic techniques. was on the verge of pulling them out when I spoke to an old Italian and he said just puff them with garden sulphur. I did that every few weeks and after rain. I had so many bunches I couldn't give them away and even the bird left them alone because of the sulphur dust. i juiced about 30x300ml plastic water bottles and froze them. I still drink it every few days and it is great. Never never give up | About the Author Doug Sorrento,Perth 9th June 2011 4:41pm #UserID: 5411 Posts: 1 View All Doug 's Edible Fruit Trees |

amanda says... Probably potassium Brad - it really helps to toughen things up - including lawns :) Thanks Doug - I have gone with the 1/10 milk spray but it's more of a preventative than a cure apparently - and some years I don't get p.mildew anway..(so all that work spraying for nothing!!) We had a very humid summer this year and NO powdery mildew....!? I don't understand it sometimes - 2yrs ago I had major p.mildew...but it was cooler and we had a fair bit of dew (being right next to the ocean doesn't seem to help with that..??) | About the Author amanda19 Geraldton.
