Red dragon fruit issue

Dee2022 starts with ...
Hi first time growing a red dragon fruit it was growing really well and im not sure if the hot Melbourne sun caused this to happen l now know to cover younger plants what can l do to help ensure l dont loose this plant thanks for your help

The bit of brown near the base is not unusual and is too serious. It's the top of the plant that might be damaged by very hot sun. So if you expect the temperature to be heading towards 40 C, water the plant well and maybe cover it as well.
