And continuing old genetic lines....did u know the Shire horse is now an "endangered species"? This can, and is, happening to many of our apples (amoung other plants). Do genetic diversity a favour and plant an heirloom apple somewhere...me - I plan on getting the horse.. ;-)

The answer to this might be no, since Jimmy was buying in - but are there really no old orchards or growers in WA with a range of heritage apples, willing to provide propagation material to those willing to grow on rarer apples? Surely there's someone / somewhere in the hills / manjimup / dwellingup with some good material. Maybe a random search in fruiting season is the way to find trees?

I finally got my hand on Kevin's book (applenut) and was looking at the list of heritage apples we can now buy in, but I'm interested in the idea of finding the odd special old tree or orchard, or something thats trying to be 'saved' rather than (or perhaps in addition to) something thats already commercial enough to be sold

This time next year I'll have the space to play. Perhaps multigraft M7 or even (if the space exists) seedling rootstock

Does anyone know if Tydeman's late orange is a variety existing in Australia at all? It doesn't seem to be sold by the usual suspects but maybe someone knows a research station or collector had it?

Hi Brad, these people might be able to help you with information on Tydeman's:

http://www.appletrees.com.au/index.htm

It's not on their list - but they may know if it exists or not.
