Wurtz Avocado Tree Size?

    2 responses

I have had a lot of conflicting advice from the nurseries in my area, so thought someone here might be able to help.

One person tells me Wurtz will get to a max of 4 m, and another tells me it will rarely reach 2 m !

My area is probably ideal for avocados. Red loam, warm days, cooler, frequently misty nights.

What I want is an avocado that will be around 3-5 m. Given good conditions and good care, will Wurtz do this?

Good flavour is essential, so despite Reed's smaller stature, I'm not too interested in it after tasting one (bland and oily). One nursery here in town suggested that Edranol would be a smaller tree, but he hadn't tasted the fruit.

I don't care what shape the fruit is, but would prefer a smooth skin to a pebbly one, if I have a choice. I am willing to do a bit of pruning to keep the tree within bounds, but don't want to devote my life to trying to keep one at half it's normal size. Anyone have any suggestions?

I reckon 4m is more like it.

They are labelling all dwarfs as being 2m these days which is NOT true.

Thanks Anonymous.

Have you seen any this tall, yourself?

A friend has one (in a different area of town) and she thinks hers would be about 2 m if she hadn't kept it pruned. So, I don't know if that is the norm, or only in her location, which is flat and a fair bit drier?

Maybe there is more than one variety of Wurtz being sold in AU?
