About My Edible Backyard

Why Elke Love's Edible Plants

I have been interested in growing plants from very early on, used to grow date palms from seed on the window sill in Germany in my childhood... I have a tiny Eastern Sydeny backyard and grow lots of plants in pots. I love especially unusual plants, some of them are experiments because they are marginal to this area...

TRIED BUT DIED

Babaco Cutting 10/10

Elke's Edible Fruits
Update: 4957 days 6hrs

Comments: - Bought: 2008

This is a vey worthwile plant to grow, mine has been in the ground for one year and started bearing fruit almost immediately. Fruit are sour and best eaten cut in half and covered with a sprinkle of sugar (overnight). Or made into fruit puree for juice. Green fruit can be used in stir fries.

Update: it died in a very wet winter in Sydney in 2010. I did not even get a chance to save some cuttings, the whole stem rotted quite quickly and severely.

Planted: 2008

Height 2 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Qty: 1

Fruit Harvest: 3 kilograms per Year

First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot

Sun/Shade: Low Sun

Pollination: Self Pollination

Fertiliser or Organics Used: blood and bone occas.

When I Fertilise: Yearly

Pest Control:

none
