22/10/20 Frost: About My Edible BackyardWhy Aaron Siemienow1 Love's Edible Plants If you can't eat it, they why plant it! well thats what i think anyway. I live in a marginal climate of both extreems. 40 plus degrees in summer, with frosts quite common in late winter and early spring. With temps getting down to the occasional -3. Unfortunatly it gets quite windy too, so im trying to establish hedges and planting trees as windbreaks. i love my subtropica/temperate fruits, but the challance will be to keep them alive long enough so that they are strong enough to look after themselves in the winter and tolerate the frosts. 5 years ago, i brought a blank 20 acres and build a house on it, now my fruit tree colection is starting to come together. Give it a few years, ans when they are all established and fruiting well, i should have fresh fruit all year round, which is my main goal! CommentsAaron Siemienow1 says... [2223 days 22hrs ago]if you cant eat it, why bother planting it. Saying that, I have some ornamentals as shade trees and to keep the Wife happy.* You need your own My Edibles Page to contribute Quick & Easy |
