Question: The Cara Cara is not strictly a blood orange. True blood oranges like the Tarocco and Arnold have anthocyanin pigments that give them their colour. Anthocyanins are the same nutritious pigments that give many fruits (blueberries mulberries etc) their dark colouring. The pigment that gives the Cara Cara it's colouring is lycopene which is the same pigment found in tomatoes and watermelon. Both pigments are very important in the human diet so I suggest getting both a blood orange and a Cara Cara.
