About My Edible Backyard

Why AnnMarie Love's Edible Plants

1970 born, Living at the foot of the bluemtns, close enough to the city proper this region has everything I may need handy.  No children, 1 cat, 1 dog and 7 hens, plus xbred chicks throughout the year that I hatch and sell.

Unsure of specifics of rainfall and my soiltype to be honest.  Previous owner was a avid productive gardener and I'm still benefiting from his efforts with lovely topsoil over clay about 30cm deep full of worms.  I have only retained one small plot 3 x 5m for vegie patch, but have planted in early 09 two fruitsalad trees inside the chookyard. Dwaf Citrus - lemon manderin orange, Stone - nectarine & plum, with a Passionfruit to go in on end of the gardenshed.

Yard size approx. 680msq, open front yard with house setback and rear yard  approx 230msq inc Chook yard of about 100msq.  Have installed 6000lt rainwater tank with stand, pump and taps to the yard and laundry.  I use my greywater to the vegie patch and any overflow from tank goes to a rubble infront in this same area of yard.

Vegie patch at present (winter 09) has Carrots, Spinach, Cellery, Capsican, Strawberries, a Garlic plant & Rubarb and selfsown tomato with fruit now that were protected by selfsown monster Sunflower from the frosts!  Herbs - basil, mint, parsley, thyme & corriander that were planted in summer and still going well.  I also have comfrey, catnip , a cat/dog grass species growing well.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Fruitsalad trees develop and produce in the future!
