Location: Stony Creek About My Edible BackyardWhy NumbuggaPlantsProduce1 Love's Edible PlantsA mixture of 30 deciduous fruit trees mostly apples and pears, we have a few old english cooking apples. The orchard has a natural ground cover of Themeda australis and is grazed by chickens and ducks who help keep pests and weeds down. We have decomposed granite soil which is a bit of a challenge when preparing for planting. Rainfall is usually good but we are having a drought and have lost a couple of trees. Hungry birds are our biggest challenge, eating plump buds before they even open, we are trying to figure out the best orchard netting option at the moment.
