14/08/09 Frost: Location: Maryborough About My Edible BackyardWhy Applestar Love's Edible PlantsWe are a family of seven on a quarter acre block (heavy clay). Our goal is to have a variety of edible/useful plants and trees surrounding our home. When we moved in a few years ago, we inherited an old mulberry and macadamia tree. So far we have planted 3 mandarins, 2 oranges, 1 lemon....these trees are a few years old now. Only recently we planted 3 tropical apples, a dwarf avocado, a lychee, a longan and a black sapote. We have a banana permit pending. The macadamia is rotting out and has to go :-(, so I plan to plant a bowen mango in it;s place. We also have a few passionfruit vines, a strawberry bed and a huge vege patch (divided into 6 beds for rotation). Four chooks free range during the day and sleep in a mobile tractor made entirely from recycled materials. My challenge is now to find suitable plants to underplant the trees. Our block is slowly transforming into our own piece of sustainable paradise in suburbia. Comments* You need your own My Edibles Page to contribute Quick & Easy
