About My Edible Backyard
Why Katwood Love's Edible Plants
My husband and I are striving to achieve as sustainable a lifestyle possible on a beautiful small holding tucked under the Border Ranges. Very lucky that a lot of hard work already done by previous owners who planted the block with lots of rainforest, bush tucker, cabinet timbers and rare plants. We are now adding by planting many food trees amongst the intial plantings near our house and enlarging the vegetable garden. Bandicoots have been a challenge this season...digging up newly planted and watered plants while the ground was so dry and hard everywhere else...luckily they seem to have eased off now that we've had general rains over the last few weeks. We also have a voracious Satin Bower Bird that seems to nibble on much of the tasty new growth and ripening fruit. We are willing to share a little with the wildlife and monitor their appetites! Reward - it is so satisfying to munch on something that you know is full of goodness and grown in your own yard!
