About My Edible Backyard

Why Smith Love's Edible Plants

We have 2.5 ha of mixed garden and native forest (Spotted Gum, Blue Gum, Ironbark).

About 1ha is 'cultivated' - edibles and mostly native ornamentals. The rest is forested.

Soil is mixed clay and shale which needs lots of improvement.

Aspect is South-South West.

Annual rainfall is not enough! -  about 800mm on average.

Biggest challenges -  rainfall, lack of sunlight due to the larger forest trees and bowerbirds.
