27/12/10 Frost: About My Edible BackyardWhy Milan Love's Edible Plants My parents were Market Gardeners and since Moving to Qld in 1992 I have always been fond of growing things especially Fruit trees. I had a beautiful pure bred White German Sheppard who was very big and sadly he passed away so I saw the opportunity to start planting fruit trees in my back yard. I have Planted two bowen mango trees, a Brazilian Cherry Tree, 2 Paw paw trees, a fig tree also a Meyer Lemon, Tahitian lime and a Mandarin tree with also the Herb Garden and italian Radicchio in the front Summer Box Garden. The yard is large so I wanted to fill it in with fruit trees and I have 2 Bowen Mangos I purchased at the start of this year they were grafted and are growing at a rate of knots with this rain. They are about 2m tall and the trunks are getting wider but I will have to wait and nuture them. Planted: 2010 Height 2 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 2 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Winter Pollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: Organic only When I Fertilise: Winter Pest Control: So far Garlic Spray Organic Status:Organic Question: As my trees grow with the new shoots and leaves especially when the young leaves fill out I have found little caterpillars eating some of them and I have been checking the leaves on a daily basis so I can get rid of any. Can you please tell me if I should be using something like pyrethrium spray or will this harm the tree. Was this review helpful? Good rhymes! :) You should not need to spray anything to keep the insects away. More of danger if there are fungal infection. I live in a Mango farm and there were no need to worry about insect as they are usually quite resistance against them (including caterpillars). Take it easy!! :) Save some money from buying pyrethrium.tony1 says... [5090 days 23hrs ago] Nice big yards you got.. seems like you love R2E2 a lot. Why not get some other variety..
