About My Edible Backyard

Why Vickir Love's Edible Plants

I love edible plants as they are important for a sustainable future. Trees for carbon why not edible too less need for transport. I have challenging climate with very hot dry summer winds and frost and cold dry winds in winter. Add sandy soil years of below average rainfall with occasional drownings. North facing though is a bonus. I have had the most success so far with natives - lilli pillies, lemon and aniseed myrtle and the biggest surprise strawberry gum.

I love the smell of the leaves when crushed. I use them dried in cooking and add to tea. Better flavour than lemons. Lovely when it flowers in autumn. Stands up to weather extremes. Pest free.
