avocados

My 3 advocado trees which I purchased from Daleys have had the leaves die off to about half way up the leaves from the tips upwards. I have tried adding trace elements, with no noticable change. Interestingly, I have left 4 avocado seeds which came up in the compost, grow and only one of them has the same problem (and these trees are thriving compared to the 3 grafted trees). Perhaps the self seeded ones are getting more water due to the different location in the garden. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Joyce, find the 'post' in this forum at the bottom, called 'Yellow Reed Avo'. Follow the advice given, and you should be right. Yeah, seedling avos are usually more vigorous plants. Don't forget, that 'leaf-tip-burn' your trees have, can be from too much fertilizer. Plenty of gypsum is part of the answer.

Thank you Brendan,
I have looked at the 'Yellow Reed Avo' post and as recommended have just thrown some gypsum and sulphate of potash around the base of the trees - thankyou for your advice. I think it may have been too much fertilizer which caused the problem.
